Chitwan: In a significant boost to Nepal's agricultural exports, locally produced carrots and beetroots from Bharatpur Metropolitan City-15, Shreepur, have started being exported to Germany.
According to Chandra Prasad Adhikari, President of the District Agrarian Association Chitwan, 100 tons of beetroot and 150 tons of carrots are being exported via The Agranik Valley organization, which has been sending these products abroad for the past two years.
Adhikari emphasized that obtaining international certification has helped build foreign consumer confidence in Nepali agricultural produce. The current batch of exports is scheduled to be shipped on February 27.
Growing Agronomic Recognition in Chitwan
A total of 20 bighas in the region have been recognized as an agronomic area, with 12 bighas dedicated to cultivation—60% planted with carrots and 40% with beetroots.
The produce, cultivated by 15 farmers, has gained trust among German buyers due to its quality. Chhavilal Nyupane, a member of the association, confirmed that German-bound carrots are priced at Rs 20 per kg, while beetroots fetch Rs 50 per kg.
This export initiative aims to promote local production and encourage farmers to engage in international markets, setting a positive precedent for Nepal’s agricultural sector.
