Kathmandu: The ruling CPN (UML) has announced a nationwide public awakening campaign aimed at defending Nepal's democratic republican system. According to Rajendra Gautam, chief of UML's publicity department, the campaign seeks to raise public awareness against what the party describes as undemocratic activities occurring in recent days.
Gautam informed that the party will formally launch the campaign across the country on March 24. The three-week-long initiative will include public mobilization and mass rallies in key cities such as Dhangadhi, Surkhet, Butwal, Pokhara, Birgunj, and Damak. Additionally, district-level assemblies are scheduled to be held in all districts on March 31 as part of the campaign.
As part of the movement, demonstrations and mass meetings will take place in major cities to garner support and educate citizens on the significance of preserving the democratic republic. UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel has already directed party committees to ensure the campaign’s effective implementation.
Speaking at a virtual meeting today, General Secretary Pokhrel urged party leaders and cadres to actively inform the public about the socio-economic development and achievements Nepal has made under the democratic system. He emphasized the importance of contrasting these developments with the conditions that existed during the Panchayat era, highlighting the changes in people’s livelihoods and overall national progress.
