Kathmandu: Amid growing concerns over regional tensions between India and Pakistan, the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has reassured the public that there is no disruption in the supply of petroleum products and urged people not to engage in panic buying or stockpiling at home.

NOC spokesperson Manoj Kumar Thakur told Amrakura that petroleum supplies from India are continuing smoothly. “Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is providing the fuel as requested. So there is no need to panic,” said Thakur, emphasizing that Nepal’s fuel import process remains uninterrupted.

Thakur warned that hoarding highly flammable items such as petrol, diesel, and LPG gas at home is dangerous and can lead to major accidents. “Storing fuel at home poses a severe safety risk to families and communities,” he added.

India, facing similar public anxiety, has also issued statements through its major oil companies — Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) — assuring the public that they have adequate fuel reserves. The companies urged citizens not to engage in panic buying, despite fears circulating on social media.

Rumors and misleading information about potential fuel shortages are spreading on social media platforms in both India and Nepal, prompting authorities to issue clarifications. The NOC and Indian oil firms stressed that supplies remain stable and citizens should refrain from unsafe and unnecessary stockpiling.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and reiterated that any attempts to hoard fuel could result not only in safety hazards but also in legal action if public safety is compromised.
