Kathmandu: Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has expressed serious concern over recent news reports and public complaints regarding a shortage of cooking gas (LP gas) in the Kathmandu Valley, clarifying that there is no shortage in the market.

In a press release issued on Monday, the Corporation stated that sufficient quantities of LP gas are being regularly imported to meet the increased demand during the winter season. According to NOC, a monthly quota of 49,500 metric tons of gas has been allocated nationwide. Of this, 47,264 metric tons were imported and distributed in November, 48,531 metric tons in December, and 47,304 metric tons in January.

Temporary Cylinder Shortage in Some Industries
The Corporation acknowledged that a limited number of gas industries are facing shortages of cylinders, but said those industries have been instructed to immediately manage supplies and normalize distribution. NOC assured consumers that the overall supply system will return to normal shortly.

Additional Import Allowed Ahead of Elections
Considering the upcoming elections scheduled for Falgun 21 and current market demand, NOC has permitted gas industries to import an additional 2,000 metric tons of LP gas in February beyond the regular quota from the Indian Oil Corporation.

Public Urged Not to Hoard Gas
The Corporation has urged the general public not to panic-buy or unnecessarily stock gas cylinders at home, warning that such practices could create artificial shortages. NOC emphasized that consumer cooperation is essential to maintain a balanced and smooth supply system.

Stating that it is closely monitoring industries facing supply-related issues, the Corporation reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring regular and uninterrupted availability of cooking gas in the market.
