Kathmandu: On the occasion of Republic Day 2082, President Ram Chandra Poudel delivered a powerful message, emphasizing that the greatest enemies of the republic are procrastination, irregularities, and chaos. He underlined that while Nepal has achieved political milestones, these alone are not enough to make the republic meaningful to the everyday lives of its citizens.
Call for Transformation in Governance
President Poudel stressed the urgent need to change the character of governance, politics, political parties, and leadership. “Our governance style must evolve,” he said. “We must not delay in making our politics and institutions democratic, just, competitive, fair, and effective to truly realize the promise of the republic.”
Linking the Republic with Citizens' Lives
Highlighting the gap between political ideals and citizens’ realities, the President said, “Until hope lights every citizen’s life, the goal of our federal democratic republic—achieved through sacrifice—remains unfulfilled.” He noted that people are looking for good governance, employment, opportunity, fair resource distribution, and social justice, all of which require sound economic development.
Focus on Development and Responsibility
He urged the nation to make the best use of its resources to transform sectors like agriculture, tourism, energy, and industry, stating that prosperity and success of the republic hinge on these efforts. “Only by changing the living standards of citizens can we truly connect the republic with their lives,” he said.
A Moral and Historical Duty
Describing the republic not just as a political system, but a value-based approach to politics, economics, and social life, President Poudel reminded all leaders and institutions of their historical responsibility. “We must not forget the values and moral foundations of the republic,” he said. “Let today be a reminder of our duty to protect its dignity and work toward its prosperity.”
Celebrating a System of Justice and Inclusion
President Poudel also affirmed that Nepal’s democratic republic, enriched with federalism, inclusivity, social justice, and democratic values, stands as one of the most progressive systems in the world. He emphasized that it has ensured rights, recognized diversity, and fostered unity among citizens, offering hope for a stronger and fairer nation.
President Poudel’s message is a clear call for reform, responsibility, and results, aiming to breathe life into Nepal’s hard-earned democratic framework through development, justice, and inclusive governance.
