Kathmandu: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has expressed cautious optimism that the stalemate in Nepal’s federal parliament will soon be resolved. His remarks come amid weeks of disruption by opposition parties demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak over the controversial 'visit visa' scandal.

Speaking to the media, Prachanda said he sensed a shift toward compromise following his recent meeting with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba. “I noticed signs of flexibility in all directions. If that continues, I believe the parliament will resume functioning soon,” he said.

However, Prachanda emphasized that flexibility must come from all sides, including the government. “The Maoists alone cannot resolve the impasse. The government also needs to show flexibility,” he added, subtly pointing to the ruling coalition's responsibility in breaking the deadlock.

Parliamentary proceedings have been repeatedly obstructed by the opposition, who are demanding accountability in the alleged abuse of visit visas under Home Minister Lekhak’s watch. The government, so far, has resisted opposition calls for resignation or a formal investigation, triggering weeks of legislative paralysis.

Observers now await whether dialogue among top leaders — including Prachanda, Deuba, and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal — can translate into a consensus formula to end the deadlock and restore normal parliamentary business.
