Biratnagar: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has expressed doubt over the possibility of immediate left unity in Nepal, citing a persistent crisis of trust among political parties.
Speaking to reporters at Biratnagar Airport on Tuesday, Bhandari said that although efforts toward leftist unity have been made in the past, such alliances have failed to remain stable over time.
"Even though there has been left unity, it has not been sustained so far. Because of that, I am not so sure there will be left unity," she stated. "There is a major crisis of trust between the parties — not just among the left, but among all the major and newly emerging parties."
She stressed that national interest would be best served if the country’s key political forces — both old and new — came together to discuss and act on common national agendas.
Bhandari also dismissed speculation about her personal political ambitions, saying she has no involvement in factional politics and does not harbor any aspirations for political positioning.
