Kathmandu: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has announced her return to active politics, stating that her responsibility to ensure the happiness of the people and prosperity of the nation remains unfulfilled. She made the declaration during a national symposium titled “Three Decades of Jabaj”, organized in Kathmandu on the 74th birth anniversary of the late public leader Madan Kumar Bhandari.
Bhandari, a senior leader of the CPN-UML and widow of Madan Bhandari, said she renewed her party membership with the intention of continuing her political journey after completing her term as President. “I have no personal ambition. My only objective is the welfare of the nation and the people,” she said, emphasizing her lifelong dedication to socialism based on social justice and equality.
Reflecting on her political journey, Bhandari remarked that its highs and lows have strengthened her resolve. “There is no such thing as fatigue in politics,” she said, quoting her late husband, and called on all to take the initiative in fulfilling the dream of a just and prosperous Nepal.
In response to public speculation that Bhandari’s return could create a rift within the CPN-UML, party Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli dismissed such rumors. “Her return to politics will not cause an explosion within the party. These are baseless illusions,” Oli said during the same event, urging supporters and the public not to fall for misleading interpretations.
Oli reaffirmed that Bhandari's continued involvement would only strengthen the party’s ideological roots and commitment to the late Madan Bhandari’s philosophy of People's Multiparty Democracy (JaBaJa).
