Kathmandu: Nepali Congress Member of Parliament Ramhari Khatiwada has accused Sumire Tour and Travels of defrauding thousands of Nepalis over the past decade by charging exorbitant fees for visit visas to Japan. Speaking in the House of Representatives, Khatiwada demanded a fair and thorough investigation into the matter.

He claimed that the company has made billions of rupees from this alleged scam, exploiting the aspirations of young people seeking opportunities abroad. “For the past 10 years, thousands have been sent to Japan under the guise of visit visas, and billions have been extracted from them,” said Khatiwada.

Taking direct aim at the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Khatiwada alleged that individuals involved in the scam have even secured seats in parliament. “Sumire Tour and Travels—whose company is it? They have bought MPs and are representing them from the parliament under the party's name,” he said, implying political protection behind the fraudulent operations.

Khatiwada further added, “Let a fair investigation be conducted and action taken against all involved, no matter their status.”

He also criticized the growing trend of lawmakers disrupting parliamentary proceedings by shouting slogans while other members are speaking, warning that such practices are undermining the integrity of the legislature.

According to reports, Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal, also known as Hari Aryal, who is the Managing Director of Sumire Tours and Travels, is currently serving as the acting President of the RSP.
