Kathmandu: CPN (UML) Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula has strongly criticized CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, saying that his recent statements in Parliament reflected frustration and unresolved bitterness over his party’s exit from the government. Speaking to reporters at the Parliament premises on Monday, Bartaula remarked that Dahal left the rostrum “in pain”, and that his tone and content were driven by personal prejudice and anger.

“His entire speech carried an undertone of extreme frustration and bias,” said Bartaula. “He conveyed a very foul message from the Parliament, and such a style is inappropriate and undignified.”

Urges Constructive Role of Opposition
Bartaula emphasized that opposition leaders have a responsibility to recognize the government’s positive efforts while also offering constructive suggestions. He warned against what he described as growing trends that undermine the constitution and the democratic system.

“There are forces trying to fish in murky waters by attacking the system itself,” he said. “In such a time, it’s important for opposition leaders to support the system, acknowledge good work, and offer guidance on areas of improvement.”

Criticizes Dahal's Use of the Term ‘Middlemen’
Bartaula also took issue with Dahal’s habit of labeling people he disagrees with as 'middlemen', calling it a narrow and divisive tactic.

“Just because someone doesn’t agree with his view doesn’t make them a middleman,” Bartaula argued. “Such branding only deepens political toxicity and hinders healthy discourse.”

His remarks signal growing friction between the main opposition CPN (UML) and the Maoist Centre, which had previously shared power before political realignment led to Dahal’s party exiting the ruling coalition.
