Kathmandu: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has stated that Nepal’s overall peace and security situation is currently in a “good” state. He made these remarks during a meeting of the Federalism Strengthening and National Concerns Committee held on Friday.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Lekhak said the Home Ministry is continuously working to ensure national peace and security while protecting the lives and property of citizens. He stressed that the ministry is actively engaged in preventing and controlling crime, and when crimes occur, it is committed to investigating them thoroughly and punishing the culprits according to the law.

"The first responsibility of our ministry is to maintain peace and protect people’s lives and property," he said. "Our next priority is to control criminal activities and make sure offenders are brought to justice." According to Lekhak, the current law and order situation is better than it was a year ago.

He added that the ministry is also focused on establishing good governance, implementing constitutional provisions and laws, and managing disasters. These, he said, are core responsibilities being carried out effectively by the Home Ministry.

Highlighting recent achievements, Lekhak pointed out that several individuals involved in older criminal cases who had been absconding have now been arrested. He credited this progress to the coordinated efforts of security agencies working under the ministry.

In addition, Minister Lekhak drew attention to the growing problems of drug abuse and road accidents in the country. He emphasized the need for collective action to reduce and control drug use, while also calling for stronger measures to prevent road accidents.

The Home Minister concluded by reaffirming the government’s dedication to maintaining peace, promoting justice, and ensuring the overall safety and security of the people.
