Ghorahi, Deukhuri: CPN (UML) General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has strongly opposed attempts by neighboring countries India and China to use Nepali territory without Nepal's consent, calling it “unfair and unacceptable.”

Speaking at a press conference organized by Press Chautari Nepal in Ghorahi on Saturday, Pokharel reiterated that the Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, and Kalapani areas belong to Nepal.

“Two neighboring countries have tried to use these areas without Nepal’s consent. Nepal has expressed its disagreement through diplomatic channels. Any agreement made without Nepal's consent and participation is unfair,” Pokharel said, emphasizing that disputes should be resolved based on “facts and evidence.”

Sugauli Treaty as Basis of Nepal’s Claim

Pokharel asserted that the border outlined in the historic Sugauli Treaty represents Nepal’s real boundary, reinforcing that Nepal’s stance rests on factual and historical evidence.

Remarks on Government Performance

On the government’s achievements, Pokharel claimed the current administration has improved revenue collection, strengthened spending capacity, and fostered an investment-friendly environment. “The private sector is now more enthusiastic compared to previous years,” he added.

UML’s Upcoming General Convention

Pokharel also announced that the UML’s second statutory general convention will be held on Bhadra 21–23, where three major proposals—political, organizational, and statutory amendments—will be discussed. According to him, 650,000 party members will participate in discussions.

Former President Bhandari’s Role

Commenting on former President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s role, Pokharel said it was inappropriate to restrict her from all activities. “A respected person like the former President should not be a hostage at home. She can remain socially active, but active party politics would not be appropriate,” he stated.
