Kathmandu: The Nepal Army has detained 26 individuals accused of looting during the ongoing unrest triggered by the Gen-G movement.

Looting in Bhaktapur and Kathmandu

According to the Army’s Public Relations and Information Directorate, 21 people were arrested for alleged involvement in looting at Bhatbhateni Supermarket, Hotel Hyatt, and Boudha area in Radhe Radhe, Bhaktapur.

In a separate incident, five individuals were arrested on charges of looting at the Rastriya Banijya Bank in New Baneshwor, one of the key protest centers in the capital.

Army Accused of Overreach

While security agencies argue that the arrests were necessary to prevent criminal activities amid the chaos, critics say the Army is taking unfair advantage of the situation by exercising powers beyond its mandate.

The arrests come as protests continue to escalate across Kathmandu and other cities, following the killing of 19 people in police action earlier this week.
