Kathmandu: The National Security Council (NSC) has recommended mobilizing the Nepali Army for the upcoming House of Representatives election.

A meeting of the NSC held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sushila Karki decided to forward the recommendation to the Council of Ministers, citing Article 266(1) of the constitution. According to a press statement issued by NSC member-secretary Suman Raj Aryal, the decision aims to ensure a free, impartial, and fear-free electoral environment.

The meeting also discussed national security challenges arising from recent domestic and international developments, along with strategies to address them.

Additionally, the NSC reviewed and endorsed—with necessary amendments—its eighth annual report for fiscal year 2081/82.
