Kathmandu: As the Supreme Court reopened for writ registration on Wednesday, ten writ petitions were filed in a single day challenging the dissolution of the House of Representatives and demanding its restoration.
Following severe arson, vandalism, and looting during the Gen-G protest on Bhadra 24, the Supreme Court had suspended all regular operations except for the registration and hearing of habeas corpus and urgent petitions.
With the resumption of writ registration today, multiple legal challenges were lodged against the government's move to dissolve Parliament.
According to Supreme Court spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala, the petitions demand the appointment of a new Prime Minister, the annulment of Parliament’s dissolution, and the reinstatement of the House. The submitted writs are currently being reviewed for registration.
The petitioners include Advocates Dr. Premraj Silwal, Yubaraj Poudel, Kirtinath Sharma Poudel, Ayush Badal, Khadak Bahadur Shah, Abhash Pokharel, Ayush Bhandari, Dambar Prasad Shiwakoti, Anil Karki, and Dal Bahadur Dhami.
A full court meeting chaired by Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut on Asoj 26 had decided to resume the registration and hearing of writ petitions from today, marking a crucial step toward addressing the ongoing political and constitutional crisis.
