Kathmandu: The Supreme Court has ordered Prime Minister Sushila Karki to submit a written response in a contempt of court case filed against her. The directive was issued by a division bench of Justices Hari Prasad Phuyal and Abdul Aziz Musalman.
The petition alleges that the government violated the Supreme Court’s interim order by recalling an ambassador after the court had explicitly instructed otherwise. Despite the order, the ambassador was recalled again, prompting accusations of disregard for judicial authority.
Karki, a former Chief Justice who was also handling the responsibilities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reportedly signed and issued the letter recalling the ambassadors even after the interim order was in place.
Various parties had previously urged the interim government not to undermine Nepal’s international diplomacy by recalling ambassadors during this sensitive period.
