Kathmandu: Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Sunita Dangol, has stressed that Jyapu Day should serve as a strong expression of the identity, existence, and cultural heritage of the indigenous Jyapu community.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Jyapu Culture Development Trust on the occasion of the 22nd Jyapu Day on Thursday, Deputy Mayor Dangol said that safeguarding the identity and existence of the Jyapu society is also the government’s responsibility.
Highlighting the cultural essence of the celebration, she said that the day showcases the hard work, lifestyle, and unique cultural practices of the Jyapu people. “Yomari is not just a food item; it is a symbol of our prosperity, fertility, and family unity. Jyapu Day and Yomari Punhi represent our true identity beyond tradition,” she added.
She further stated that Yomari Punhi and Jyapu Day are opportunities to reaffirm commitment to the soil and land, and emphasized the importance of preserving the philosophical values associated with these culturally significant festivals.
Similarly, Trust Chairperson Mangal Krishna Singh said that Nepal possesses numerous cultural heritages worthy of inclusion in the World Heritage List. He noted that traditional music, festivals, and worship practices continue to play an essential role in preserving these heritages.
