Election Countdown Begins

Kathmandu: With 88 days remaining until the election of members of the House of Representatives, the Election Commission has stepped up its preparations. The election has been scheduled for Falgun 21, and political parties have begun intensifying their internal processes accordingly.

Proportional Representation Process Starts
The Election Commission is launching the proportional electoral system program from today (Mangsir 21). Political parties may submit their applications for the proportional representation (PR) system between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm today.

The list of parties that apply for the PR system will be made public on Mangsir 24.

Deadlines and Schedule for PR Candidates
According to Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, political parties that have applied will need to submit their closed lists of candidates on Poush 13 and 14, between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.

The final closed list of proportional representation candidates will be published on Magh 30.

Out of the 275 seats in the House of Representatives, 110 members are elected through the proportional representation system.

Schedule for Direct Elections
Under the direct election timetable, candidates must register their nomination papers on Magh 6, with the initial list of candidates also published the same day.

Complaints against candidacies can be filed on Magh 7, and a revised candidate list will be issued on Magh 8.

Candidates may withdraw their names on Magh 9, after which the final candidate list will be published and election symbols will be allotted.
