PR Candidates Allowed to Withdraw Candidacy Today for HoR Election

Kathmandu: Candidates listed under the proportional representation (PR) system for the upcoming election of members of the House of Representatives, scheduled for Falgun 21, can withdraw their candidacies today.
Withdrawal Deadline Till 4 PM
According to a notice issued by the Election Commission, candidates whose names were included in the closed lists submitted by political parties on Poush 13 and 14 may withdraw their names by submitting an application by 4:00 pm today.
Election Officer Krishna Bahadur Raut informed that candidates seeking to withdraw must apply to the office of the proportional electoral officer of the Election Commission between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.
Application Procedure Defined
Candidates are required to submit their withdrawal applications in the format specified under Schedule 18 of the Proportional Election Guidelines for Members of the House of Representatives, 2082. The Commission has clarified that if a candidate is unable to appear in person, the application may also be submitted through an authorized representative with a letter of appointment.
PR Seats and Next Process
As per Nepal’s constitutional provisions, 165 members of the 275-member House of Representatives will be elected through the direct election system, while 110 members will be elected through the proportional representation system.
Following the completion of the withdrawal process today, the Election Commission is preparing to formally inform the concerned political parties of the updated candidate lists on December 10.
