Kathmandu: Gagan Kumar Thapa, President of the Nepali Congress, has warned that party members who fail to renew their active membership will no longer remain part of the party.
The warning comes amid resistance from a faction aligned with Sher Bahadur Deuba, which has expressed reluctance to move forward with the membership renewal process.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday after visiting the party’s ward office in Kathmandu Ward No. 30 to submit his own application for membership renewal, Thapa urged party leaders and cadres not to obstruct the process.
He emphasized that the membership update is being carried out in accordance with the party’s statute and directed all members to visit their respective ward offices and complete the process without delay.
Thapa also cautioned against spreading confusion or rumors, particularly claims that memberships are being “taken away.” He clarified that renewal is essential for maintaining active membership status, and those who choose not to update will automatically lose their active membership.
He has set a deadline of April 15 for all members to complete the renewal process.
Acknowledging practical challenges, Thapa said special arrangements will be made for members who are abroad or unable to attend due to valid reasons. He also encouraged members to contact the party’s central office or responsible officials if they have any confusion regarding the process.
Reiterating his message, Thapa stressed that active participation of all leaders and cadres is crucial for strengthening the party and that adhering to the party statute is a shared responsibility.
