Kathmandu: The District Administration Office Kathmandu has issued a public notice urging the immediate evacuation of settlements built along riverbanks and on encroached government, public, or private land across the district.
According to the notice, residents living in such areas have been asked to vacate their homes by the evening of Baisakh 17. The office has warned that clearance operations in high-risk settlements will begin from 7:00 AM on Baisakh 18.
Assistant Chief District Officer Muktiram Rijal stated that the decision has been taken considering disaster risks and safety concerns. The administration has especially urged vulnerable groups—including the sick, elderly, persons with disabilities, pregnant and lactating women, and children—to relocate to safer areas as soon as possible.
Residents have also been advised to seek assistance from Nepal Police during relocation and to ensure that their essential belongings, clothing, and livestock are safely moved.
The administration further clarified that efforts will be made to identify genuinely landless families and provide a long-term solution to their housing issues. At the same time, it warned that individuals falsely claiming landless status will be identified and brought under legal action.
