Inaruwa: In a heartwarming initiative, Duhabi Municipality in Sunsari district has provided residential homes to 80 underprivileged households, including Dalit and marginalized communities. The homes, constructed on a two-bigha (approximately 0.67 acres) plot of land, were handed over as part of the "Mayor-residence project."

The project, with a total cost of NPR 70 million, was officially inaugurated on Monday. Each of the 80 homes is equipped with essential amenities such as drinking water, sanitation facilities, and electricity. Additionally, a community building has been constructed to serve as a space for traditional rituals and ceremonies, including weddings and tonsure ceremonies.

Mayor Bed Narayan Gachchhadar stated that the beneficiaries were selected from among 200 applicants, and the remaining applicants would also receive similar residential homes in the near future.

To further support the families, the local government plans to offer free education to the children of these households. Additionally, parents will be provided with skill-oriented training to promote self-employment opportunities within the community.

In a related note, the municipality issued a warning regarding the encroachment on public spaces and settlements by squatter dwellers. It emphasized that if any squatter dweller is found to have their own home, appropriate legal actions will be taken.

Duhabi Municipality's initiative to provide homes to underprivileged families serves as a testament to its commitment to improving the living conditions of marginalized communities and fostering social development.
