Earthquake in Sudurpaschim Province Leaves Seven Injured

Sudurpaschim: An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck Bajura district in Sudurpaschim Province, injuring a total of seven people. The epicenter was reported to be at Talkot in the district. Although no fatalities were reported, the quake caused damage to houses and other infrastructure in the area.

Narayan Pandey, the Chief District Officer (CDO) in Bajhang, informed that the injured individuals were promptly taken to the hospital for treatment, and their conditions were reported as normal. Details on the extent of damages and the overall impact on the community are still awaited.

Reports indicated damage to houses in the district headquarters and surrounding areas, with some rendered uninhabitable. Public office buildings, including one in Masta rural municipality's ward no-1, collapsed due to the quake.

In Bajhang, patients at the District Hospital were treated outdoors following the earthquake. Sudurpaschim Province Police Office Chief and DIG Bharat Bahadur Bohora stated that two additional injuries occurred—one person was injured by a falling stone while returning home from school in Baitadi, and another person collecting grass was injured in a quake-triggered landslide.

Although aftershocks continued in Doti district, no human fatalities were reported. The earthquake, measured at 6.3 on the Richter scale with an epicenter in Chainpur, Bajhang, was followed by another measuring 5.3 with an epicenter at Talkot in the district.
