Karnali: The CPN (Maoist Centre) Karnali Province secretariat, in a recent meeting, has urged the government to implement disaster risk residence insurance for all citizens. The meeting, attended by province and district in-charges, central members, and province chairpersons, emphasized the need for a comprehensive disaster risk residence insurance and a natural disaster risk mass accidental insurance scheme.
Considering the heightened risk of a devastating earthquake in Western Nepal, the province secretariat called on the federal government to take immediate action in implementing these insurance measures. Matrika Prasad Yadav, Deputy General Secretary of the Maoist Centre and Karnali Province In-charge, shared that the decision was prompted by the potential threat of earthquakes in the region.
Additionally, the meeting urged all three levels of government to declare the recently earthquake-hit districts as crisis zones. It recommended the formulation of a special action plan for disaster response and immediate rehabilitation, calling for the mobilization of extensive resources.
The secretariat meeting also advocated for the formation of a high-powered reconstruction authority dedicated to rebuilding structures affected by earthquakes. It stressed the importance of prioritizing treatment, relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction after completing pending tasks related to relief efforts.
Furthermore, the meeting directed the concerned district committees to mobilize teams, led by central and province committee members, in the severely affected wards. These teams are tasked with executing rescue operations, providing relief, arranging temporary residences, distributing food and clothing, offering medical assistance, and providing psycho-social counseling. The teams will also be responsible for collecting data on loss and damage in the affected areas.
As part of their commitment to earthquake survivors' relief and rehabilitation, the Maoist Centre Karnali Province decided to contribute Rs 500,000 to the government relief fund.
