Nepal Sambat 1144 Celebrations: Leaders Extend Wishes

Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel and Vice-President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav have extended their best wishes to the Newar community on the occasion of 'Nepal Sambat 1144'. The President paid tribute to philanthropist Sankhadhar Sakhawa, who initiated the Nepal Sambat calendar by liberating Kathmandu Valley residents from debt.

Expressing hope that Nepal Sambat would promote mutual goodwill, tolerance, and national unity, President Paudel extended wishes for happiness, peace, and prosperity to all Nepali sisters and brothers at home and abroad.

Vice-President Yadav expressed confidence that Nepal Sambat would contribute to fostering tolerance, fraternity, friendship, a sense of belongingness, and mutual goodwill. He commended Sankhadhar Sakhwa for relieving farmers and impoverished people of the Kathmandu Valley from debt and slavery, creating a favorable environment for a dignified life.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' acknowledged Sankhadhar Sakhwa's memorable role in Nepal's history of social justice. He highlighted Sakhwa's contribution as a progressive social campaigner and promoter of Nepal Sambat, expressing belief that it would inspire cooperation, unity, and prosperity.

The Prime Minister wished for happiness, peace, prosperity, and unity to all Nepalis on the occasion of Nepal Sambat. The Newar communities celebrate Nepal Sambat as the New Year's Day, recognizing it as the Newar calendar, and it is believed that Sankhadhar Sakhwa's philanthropy laid the foundation for social change in contemporary society.
