Kathmandu: In a swift response to the earthquake crisis, the Nepali Congress (NC) has announced plans to dispatch teams of volunteers, including engineers, to construct temporary shelters for the affected communities.

During a meeting of NC office-bearers held on Monday, it was unanimously decided to mobilize volunteer teams to promptly build temporary huts, providing relief to earthquake survivors in Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim districts as winter intensifies.

The meeting, conducted at the residence of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, emphasized the urgency of the situation and instructed the volunteer teams to prioritize the construction of shelters for elderly individuals and families with new mothers, who are particularly vulnerable to the harsh cold.

Chief of the NC Publicity Department, Min Bishwokarma, conveyed that the party is organizing 25 teams, each comprising 10 members, which will include engineers, overseers affiliated with NC, Nepal Students Union, and Nepal Tarun Dal. This initiative aims to address the shortage of human resources required to swiftly construct temporary shelters in the quake-affected areas.

During the meeting, NC Vice-President and Defence Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka, along with General-Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa, who recently conducted an on-site visit to the earthquake-hit areas, briefed the participants about the ground realities and the pressing needs of the affected population.

The deployment of volunteer teams underscores the NC's commitment to providing immediate assistance and relief to those grappling with the aftermath of the recent earthquakes, aiming to ensure the well-being of the affected communities.
