Nepali Congress Contemplates Solo Contest in Upcoming Elections: Gagan Thapa

Lumbini: Gagan Kumar Thapa, the General Secretary of Nepali Congress (NC), expressed his belief that the party should contest the upcoming elections independently, even if it leads to defeat. He emphasized the need for the NC to capitalize on honest and diligent members within the party.

Thapa shared his views on the economic burden imposed by the provincial structure and advocated for its optimization to deliver services at a lower cost. He made these statements during the first conference of the NC Lumbini Province Committee in Butwal.

NC President Deuba Stresses Unity for Party Strengthening

During the inaugural session of the NC Lumbini Province Committee's first conference, President Sher Bahadur Deuba highlighted the importance of unity among party leaders and cadres for strengthening the party. Deuba expressed confidence that the provincial conference would contribute to internal democracy and overall party fortification.

He urged leaders to unite and strengthen the party, emphasizing that the party's strength lies in collective unity.

General-Secretary Sharma Cautions Against Pro-Monarchy Voices

Another General-Secretary of the party, Bishwa Prakash Sharma, warned against voices in favor of monarchy and called for awareness. Sharma stressed the responsibility of society to critically assess the works of both past royal institutions and the present developmental states.

He underscored the need for everyone's commitment to strengthen the NC and urged leaders and cadres to make resolutions for nation-building.

Leader Koirala Calls for Unified Preparation for Upcoming Elections

Leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala asserted that the NC should be united in preparing to contest upcoming elections independently, from ward to general elections. He emphasized the potential for positive changes in the country if the NC undergoes transformation. Koirala expressed concern over rising corruption and impunity, urging the party to relentlessly pursue good governance and transparency.

NC Conference Highlights Unity for Progress

The NC conference in Lumbini saw participation from over 750 representatives from all seven provinces. The leaders discussed various aspects, including political reports, organizational reports, and economic assessments, aiming to evaluate the party's performance and the implementation of the federal democratic republic.
