Kathmandu: Following a meeting convened by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda,' the ruling coalition parties have called for a thorough investigation into the sale and purchase of shares involving the private telecommunication service provider, Ncell.

The gathering, held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar, concluded that the government should initiate a serious inquiry into the matter, and arrangements for this investigation will be made during the upcoming Cabinet meeting.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Rekha Sharma, Minister for Communications and Information Technology and government spokesperson, announced that a high-level investigation committee would be established at the next cabinet meeting to delve into the details of the Ncell shares' purchase and sale. The decision received support from leaders of the coalition partners.

Minister Sharma dismissed allegations of involvement by top leaders of the coalition parties in the case. She emphasized the government's commitment to the rule of law and safeguarding national interests. "If top leaders were involved, there would have been no investigation," she stated.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, Communications Minister Sharma, and others.

The government, through a press release issued on Tuesday, reiterated its commitment to protecting Nepal's interests and ensuring compliance with existing legal frameworks. Minister Sharma announced that a comprehensive study and investigation would be conducted on the legal provisions and international processes related to the share transaction, examining its effects on Nepal's telecommunications sector and the government's revenue generation.

Furthermore, Minister Sharma shared that Prime Minister Dahal had directed concerned authorities on Monday to scrutinize the share transaction deal, emphasizing the lack of prior approval from the regulatory body, Nepal Telecom Authority, and the unnatural conditions and pricing associated with the transaction.
