Damauli: Gagan Kumar Thapa, the General-Secretary of Nepali Congress (NC), has emphasized the need for a provision to impose punishment in case of non-compliance with the party's statute. Speaking at a training program organized by the NC constituency no. 1 regional committee in Damauli, Tanahun district, Thapa stressed the importance of running the party in accordance with its statute.
Thapa mentioned that ongoing discussions are considering the implementation of such a provision within the party. He called for an end to factionalism within the party, attributing the current faction formation to the existing system.
"We talk about ending factionalism, but we are still forming factions within the party," Thapa remarked. He highlighted the discussions in the parliament about moving forward with electoral law reform.
Thapa also expressed the necessity of changing the electoral system within the party. "We are discussing whether the current procedure of distributing tickets to party cadres and leaders for election candidacy is appropriate or if candidates should contest elections from any other local level," he added.
