PM Dahal Advocates for Developing Nations' Interests at NAM Summit

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' emphasized that he raised the voices for the interests of developing nations during the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) held in Kampala, Uganda. Speaking at a news conference upon his return to Tribhuvan International Airport, PM Dahal stated that he firmly addressed issues of economic development and prosperity for developing countries.

He expressed concerns about the challenges faced by Nepal, despite its efforts to graduate from the status of a Least Developed Country. PM Dahal stressed the importance of achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) and advocated for internationally agreed-upon goals, including the Paris Agreement.

During the summit, PM Dahal highlighted the significant contributions of NAM countries to creating a judicious, inclusive, and equitable global system. He shared that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres acknowledged the relevance of NAM in the current global context.

In his address to the summit's concluding program, PM Dahal urged NAM members to reaffirm their commitment to the values and principles of non-alignment, emphasizing the need to avoid double standards. He called for unity, sincerity, harmony, solidarity, and cooperation among NAM countries to achieve shared prosperity.

PM Dahal thanked the President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for successfully organizing the summit and Azerbaijan for providing leadership to the movement over the last three years as its Chair. He expressed gratitude for the summit being a forum representing self-dignity, independence, autonomy, and solidarity for the Global South.
