Kathmandu: The budget session of the House of Representatives and National Assembly within the federal parliament begins today. President Ramchandra Paudel, in accordance with Article 93 (1) of the Nepal Constitution, summoned the joint session of the federal parliament on May 2, following the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.
The federal parliamentary secretariat had previously issued a notice requesting all members of parliament to attend the session scheduled for 2:00 pm today at the International Conference Centre in New-Baneswor.
As per constitutional provisions, the government is required to present estimated details of income and expenditure (budget) for the upcoming year to parliament on May 28 (Jestha 15). Before this, the President will present the government's annual policy and program in a joint sitting of both houses.
To ensure the smooth functioning of the session, Speaker Devraj Ghimire has already held discussions with the leaders of major political parties represented in parliament.
