Kathmandu: The major opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), persisted in obstructing the House of Representatives (HoR) proceedings today. The NC's protest centers on demanding the formation of a parliamentary committee to investigate alleged misappropriation of cooperative funds by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Rabi Lamichhane.

As today's HoR session commenced, NC lawmaker Badri Pandey declared that the party would not allow the House to function until the committee is established with agreed-upon Terms of Reference. "The NC remains steadfast in its position until the situation is enabled for returning the savings to depositors," Pandey stated.

Home Minister Lamichhane is accused of embezzling substantial funds from the cooperative during his tenure as the managing director of Gorkha Media. Other individuals have also been implicated in similar misappropriation allegations recently.

Meanwhile, CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has called on the Nepali Congress to end the ongoing parliamentary deadlock. Speaking to the media at Biratnagar Airport, the former Prime Minister and leader of the government coalition partner emphasized the importance of proceeding with the legislative agenda, which includes endorsing government policies, programs, and announcing the budget for the new fiscal year. "The Nepali Congress should reconsider its stance," Oli urged.

Oli highlighted the need for political consensus, cooperation, and unity to achieve political stability. He reminded that the same level of cooperation and unity demonstrated during the promulgation of the Constitution is needed again to address citizens' concerns and ensure effective governance.
