Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' met with ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions in Nepal, discussing recent political developments, the country's economic situation, and the government's priorities.
The PM emphasized the government's commitment to consolidating democratic gains, achieving socio-economic transformation, and institutionalizing the federal democratic republic system. He also highlighted the government's strong stance against corruption and its dedication to good governance and participatory democracy.
PM Prachanda reiterated his commitment to concluding the peace process in Nepal, emphasizing the government's determination to bring the transitional justice process to a logical conclusion. He expressed a victim-centric approach, acknowledging reparation as a right for victims and assuring that there would be no blanket amnesty for serious human rights violations.
The PM mentioned the amendment Bill to the Enforced Disappearances Enquiry, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act, which has been tabled in Parliament with consensus among major political parties.
The PM discussed the government's economic measures, including reducing unnecessary recurrent expenditures, promoting revenue-generating activities, lowering bank interest rates, and offering refinancing and loan restructuring facilities in productive and priority sectors. He expressed the government's commitment to creating a predictable and secure investment environment to attract foreign direct investment, particularly in clean energy, tourism, and infrastructure.
PM Prachanda highlighted the significance of Official Development Assistance, grants, concessional loans, and extended international support even after Nepal's graduation from the LDC category.
PM Prachanda addressed Nepal's challenges related to climate change and its impact on the country's population and livelihoods. He urged the international community to continue supporting Nepal's sustainable development goals and emphasized the importance of receiving preferential market access, technology transfer, and financial assistance to address the country's economic, infrastructure, and climate change challenges.
The PM also mentioned Nepal's commitment to addressing money laundering concerns, as the country nears the end of concluding periodic Mutual Evaluation under the Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering. He reaffirmed Nepal's pursuit of an independent foreign policy based on principles of sovereign equality, non-interference, and mutual respect.
