Paris: President Emmanuel Macron affirmed that France is fully prepared to host the upcoming Paris Olympics during a visit to the Athletes' Village, just four days before the Games commence. “We are ready and we will be ready throughout the Games,” Macron stated, emphasizing the extensive preparations undertaken over the years. He highlighted the significance of hosting the Olympiad in Paris, marking 100 years since the city last hosted the event.

Macron praised the transformative impact of the preparations, particularly in Seine-Saint-Denis, where the Athletes' Village is located. This area, among the poorest in France, is poised to benefit significantly from the event. Macron assured that the region would not be forgotten post-Games, promising to revisit to assess the lasting benefits of the Olympics. The complex, comprising 40 low-rise housing blocks, was built using innovative, eco-friendly construction methods, including low-carbon concrete and reclaimed materials. Despite an intended natural cooling system, some delegations have requested portable cooling units for their athletes.

In light of recent controversy sparked by a French parliament member's comments, Macron, through Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne, assured the safety and welcome of the Israeli delegation. Sejourne emphasized France's commitment to their security, countering the "irresponsible and dangerous" remarks. He stressed that Israeli athletes are welcome and will be protected during the Games.

Preparations for the opening ceremony are also underway, with French security forces gearing up for the unprecedented event. For the first time, the Summer Olympics will open outside the main stadium, with athletes sailing down the Seine on 85 barges. The ceremony, set against iconic landmarks like Notre-Dame Cathedral, is expected to draw up to 500,000 spectators, promising a spectacular start to the Games.

On the sporting front, Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar, fresh from his third Tour de France victory, is setting his sights on Olympic gold in the road race. International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach, who also visited the Athletes' Village, echoed Macron’s confidence in France's readiness. As thousands of athletes and officials arrive, the stage is set for what promises to be a historic and remarkable Olympic Games in Paris.
