UNFAO Launches Country Programming Framework for Nepal

Kathmandu: The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) launched its country programming framework for Nepal on Wednesday. The framework, which covers the period from 2023 to 2027, aims to transform the overall agriculture sector of Nepal.

The framework was launched by Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Dr Beduram Bhusal, National Planning Commission Vice-Chairperson Dr Min Bahadur Shrestha, FAO Asia-Pacific Region Chief Jong-Jin Kim and UN Resident Representative Hanaa Singer-Hamdy.

Speaking at the launch event, Minister Bhusal said that the framework would help Nepal achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He also praised the long-standing partnership between FAO and Nepal.

FAO Asia-Pacific Region Chief Kim said that the framework would help Nepal transform its food system, combat climate change and improve nutrition. He also said that FAO was committed to supporting Nepal's development goals.

UN Resident Representative Hamdy said that the framework would help Nepal graduate from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category by 2026. She also said that the UN would continue to support Nepal's development efforts.

The framework is based on the principles of sustainable development, gender equality and climate resilience. It includes a number of initiatives to improve agricultural productivity, increase access to markets and promote sustainable land management.

The framework was developed in consultation with the government of Nepal, development partners and civil society organizations. It is expected to make a significant contribution to Nepal's efforts to achieve food security, nutrition and poverty reduction.
