Modi Stresses Minority Protection in Talks with Bangladesh's Interim Chief Muhammad Yunus

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh's interim government, on Friday. During the call, PM Modi emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and protection of minority communities, particularly Hindus, in Bangladesh.

The Indian Prime Minister reiterated India's commitment to supporting Bangladesh's democratic, stable, peaceful, and progressive development. He assured Yunus of India's continued support through various developmental initiatives.

Nobel Peace Laureate Muhammad Yunus, who leads the interim government formed after the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina amid mass protests, assured PM Modi that the safety and security of Hindus and other minority groups in Bangladesh would be a priority for his government.

The leaders also discussed enhancing bilateral relations in line with their respective national priorities. PM Modi shared the conversation on social media, expressing confidence in the assurances given by Yunus regarding the protection of minorities.

The call comes in the wake of growing violence and unrest in Bangladesh, particularly targeting minority communities. India has voiced its concerns and urged for the swift restoration of law and order in the neighboring country.
