Raut Recommended for Chief Justice

Kathmandu: The Constitutional Council (CC) has recommended Supreme Court Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut for the position of Chief Justice. The decision was made during a meeting held today at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Indira Rana Magar, confirmed that the council, chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, endorsed Raut, the senior-most Supreme Court Justice, for the upcoming role of Chief Justice (CJ). The recommendation will now be forwarded to the Parliamentary Hearing Committee for further evaluation.

The meeting was attended by key political figures, including Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal, opposition leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', and Deputy Speaker Rana Magar.

Justice Raut has been recommended to replace current Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, whose tenure ends on October 15. Earlier discussions on the recommendation took place in a CC meeting held on Friday.
