New York: Nepal's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, announced that the country is nearing a decisive phase in establishing peace through internal conflict management. Speaking at the Ministerial Meeting of the United Nations Forum on Peacebuilding on Thursday, she highlighted Nepal’s recent legislative progress, including the passage of a transitional justice bill focused on victims’ rights.

"The peacebuilding process has become complex in today’s world. Identifying the root causes of conflict is essential for achieving sustainable peace and social stability," Dr. Rana Deuba stated. She emphasized the need for reassessing global peacebuilding strategies for 2025, urging the UN Peacebuilding Commission to adopt a strategic approach in collaboration with bodies such as the Security Council and General Assembly.

In her address, she underscored Nepal’s historic connection as the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, advocating for a peaceful, violence-free society based on positive values and culture.

The Foreign Minister also highlighted Nepal’s commitment to the Asian Collaborative Dialogue, focusing on peace, happiness, and prosperity in the region. She noted that climate change poses unprecedented challenges for Nepal and the broader Asian community, calling for immediate global and regional cooperation to mitigate disasters like floods and landslides affecting the Himalayas.

In a separate meeting with Sima Sami Iskandar Bahous, United Nations Under Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN-Women, Dr. Rana Deuba commended the organization’s efforts in women’s empowerment. She reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to advancing gender equality and strengthening its collaboration with UN-Women.
