Government Prioritizes Digital Sector Expansion, Says Deputy PM Paudel

Kathmandu: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Paudel reaffirmed the government's commitment to expanding the digital sector, emphasizing its role in generating employment, boosting productivity, and increasing exports. Paudel made these remarks during a ceremony marking the digital collaboration between Nepal Republic Media Limited and The New York Times.

He noted that the partnership between Nepal Republic Media and The New York Times will bring a new dimension to Nepal's digital media landscape. Paudel also stressed the importance of maintaining quality journalism alongside the growing number of digital news platforms. He highlighted the government's policy of ensuring a responsible, professional, and dignified media environment.

The collaboration between Nepal Republic Media and The New York Times includes a "Digital Paywall" initiative, which allows Republic Media subscribers full access to The New York Times' digital content for a fee.

Speaking at the event, U.S. Ambassador to Nepal Dean R. Thompson expressed optimism that the collaboration would further strengthen ties between the two countries. Republic Media CEO Samriddhi Gyawali added that this partnership would help local media explore new revenue streams beyond traditional advertising.
