Kathmandu: A delegation from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) met with Nepali government officials on Monday to discuss the progress of a $500 million infrastructure project. The MCC is a U.S. government agency that provides grants to developing countries for projects that promote economic growth and reduce poverty.

The delegation was led by Jonathan Brooks, the MCC's Deputy Vice President for Europe, Asia, Pacific, and Latin America. They met with Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat and Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

During the meetings, the MCC officials and Nepali government officials discussed the progress that has been made on the project, which is known as the Millennium Challenge Account Nepal Compact (MCCNC). The MCCNC will finance the construction of a 400-kilometer transmission line and the rehabilitation of 130 kilometers of roads in Nepal.

The MCC officials expressed satisfaction with the progress that has been made on the project, particularly in the areas of land acquisition and land purchase. They also discussed the remaining works that need to be completed before the project can be implemented.

Finance Minister Mahat expressed his commitment to completing the project as soon as possible. He said that the government is committed to fulfilling all of the legal requirements for the project and that it will work closely with the MCC to ensure that the project is completed on time and within budget.

Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha assured the MCC officials that the government will facilitate the land acquisition process and that it will provide all necessary support for the project.

The MCCNC is a major development project for Nepal. It is expected to generate significant economic benefits for the country, including increased access to electricity, improved road connectivity, and increased opportunities for trade and investment. The project is also expected to create thousands of jobs during construction and operation.

The MCCNC is a significant milestone in the relationship between Nepal and the United States. It is a testament to the strong partnership between the two countries and their shared commitment to development.
