Kathmandu: Cameron Alford, the Vice President of the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact Operations Department, touched down in Kathmandu on Tuesday evening as part of his official visit to Nepal. His arrival coincides with the entry into force of the MCC Compact.

The U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu expressed the U.S. government's enthusiasm to witness the progress of the MCC compact. The success of this compact has been made possible through consistent collaboration among various stakeholders, including the government of Nepal and political parties, according to embassy sources.

"We remain committed to working closely with MCA-Nepal to ensure the smooth implementation of the compact. All parties involved are dedicated to achieving the objectives outlined in the MCC compact within the stipulated timeframe," emphasized the embassy.

Preparations have been diligently undertaken to kick off the $500 million MCC compact's implementation starting today. This comprehensive project encompasses energy and road infrastructure development, with the overarching goal of catalyzing economic growth and alleviating poverty in Nepal.

Acknowledging that the MCC received an explanatory declaration last year, the U.S. embassy underscored their acceptance of the explanatory note as an integral part of the compact. According to the agreed-upon terms, August 30th marks the official commencement of the five-year project's implementation.
