Bhadrapur: Tea exports from Nepal witnessed a significant surge of 69.22% in the first quarter of the current fiscal year, according to data from the Mechi Customs Office. During the first four months (Saun to Kartik), 8,062.16 metric tonnes of tea were exported, marking a substantial increase in both volume and value.

Ganapati Kandel, Information Officer at the Customs Office, revealed that the value of tea exports rose by 67.87%, amounting to NPR 2.20 billion compared to NPR 1.31 billion during the same period last year.

However, while tea exports thrived, other agricultural exports saw a decline. Black cardamom exports fell by 11.87%, ginger by 11.66%, amriso by 11.66%, and chhurpi by 41.45%. Additionally, exports of cauliflower, cabbage, and broccoli decreased by 27.98%.

Conversely, plywood exports rose by 29.63% during the same period.

The Customs Office collected NPR 4.72 billion in revenue in the first four months, achieving 27.22% of its annual revenue target. This performance reflects a robust tea export sector but highlights challenges in other agricultural produce exports.
