Fikkal: The death toll from Saturday night’s devastating landslide in Ilam district, triggered by continuous rainfall, has climbed to 37, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Ek Narayan Koirala of the District Police Office, the bodies of three people who were missing earlier were recovered, raising the total number of confirmed fatalities to 37.

Victims Identified Across Multiple Municipalities

Those killed in the disaster include Kiran Thebe (28), Manmaya Thebe (18), and Munusa Thebe (3) of Maijogmai Rural Municipality-6; and Barmalal Songmi (82), Buddhamaya Songmi (70), Dhanbal Songmi (46), Sarala Songmi (42), and Prakriti Songmi (14) of Maijogmai-3.

Similarly, Suresh Limbu (28) of Phakphokathum-3; Manmaya Chhetri (65) and Rasmika Chhetri (10) of Suryodaya-1; and Samir Deujali (23), Prabin Gurung, and Biraj Pakhrin Tamang of Ilam Municipality-6 were among those killed.

Victims also include Roshan Limbu (22) of Deumai-5, Bebisa Rai (22), Deepak Limbu (30), Rishika Limbu (27), Dipiska Limbu (10), Krishna Magar (28) of Deumai-3, and Prinsikha Magar (8) of Mai Municipality-5.

Search for Missing Continues

According to police, Mahendra Limbu (48) of Ilam Municipality-6 remains missing, and search operations are ongoing despite difficult conditions.

SP Koirala said authorities are continuing to collect details of damage and losses. “Information is still coming in from all sides,” he said, adding that road blockages, electricity cuts, and internet disruptions have created challenges for rescue teams.

Heavy Rains Cause Widespread Damage

Continuous rainfall across Ilam and nearby districts has triggered multiple landslides and floods, causing widespread destruction of homes, roads, and infrastructure. Local authorities, security personnel, and volunteers are mobilized for rescue and relief operations amid persistent rain.
