Kathmandu: The Sanjen Hydropower Project, located in Amachodingmo-5, Rasuwa, has successfully connected its first unit of electricity to Nepal's national grid. The connection was achieved on Friday evening after completing all necessary technical tests.

The project, which has a total capacity of 42.5 megawatts, began by generating 5 megawatts from its first unit. Preparations are underway to test and connect the remaining two units to the central transmission system by Sunday, according to the project’s CEO, Arpan Bahadur Singh.

Project Features and Highlights
Sanjen Hydropower Project is considered a model among semi-reservoir hydropower initiatives in Nepal. A key feature is the construction of a ‘peaking pond’ at the dam site, capable of storing approximately 44,000 cubic meters of water. This storage facility enables additional electricity generation during peak hours in the evening and ensures continued operations during emergencies.

The project represents a significant step in strengthening Nepal's energy infrastructure and enhancing the reliability of its national grid system.
