Kathmandu: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as 'Prachanda,' has hinted at a potential shift in Nepal's political trajectory, emphasizing the need for reforms in governance and the electoral system.
Speaking at the second convention of the Maoist Centre Gorkha-Kathmandu Liaison Coordination Committee in Kathmandu on Saturday, Chairman Dahal proposed adopting a directly elected executive chief and a fully proportional electoral system. He argued that these changes, coupled with appointing experts as ministers, would strengthen the republican system.
Dahal noted that the process of uniting various Maoist splinter groups has already commenced. He acknowledged the growing discontent among political cadres and the public, pointing out that they no longer adhere unconditionally to directives from certain leaders.
Stressing the importance of unity, the Maoist leader called for consolidating political forces from different streams. He highlighted the need for collective action to address current challenges and advance national goals.
Dahal also praised Gorkha district leaders and cadres for their ideological and organizational contributions since the inception of the Maoist movement. He lauded their role in maintaining strength and commitment throughout the party’s history.
The remarks reflect the Maoist Centre’s continued push for systemic reforms and efforts to unify divided political factions amidst evolving dynamics in Nepal's political landscape.
