Biratnagar: Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba affirmed that the current government, formed to ensure political stability and good governance, will operate without disruption.
Addressing the inaugural session of the NC’s first Koshi Province Conference in Biratnagar, Deuba emphasized that the coalition government will continue as per the agreement between the two main parties. He acknowledged the progress made during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s recent visit to China, commending the grants secured under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) to avoid exacerbating Nepal’s debt burden.
Deuba underlined the importance of strengthening the party's base in rural areas, asserting that robust local-level presence is key to electoral victories. He expressed confidence that the provincial conference would lead to significant decisions for the party’s future.
NC Vice-President Purna Bahadur Khadka stressed the need to adhere to party statutes and advocated for systematic training campaigns at the grassroots level. Reflecting on the by-election results, he noted the positive outcomes as an encouraging sign for the party.
General Secretary Gagan Thapa highlighted the alliance between the NC and UML as a step toward upholding the rule of law. Meanwhile, NC central member and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak emphasized that democracy would thrive only with a strong Nepali Congress.
Former General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula called for broad discussions on constitutional amendments, emphasizing the importance of refining the nation's governance framework.
The conference underscored the NC's focus on internal strengthening and collaborative governance, aiming to consolidate its role as a key force in Nepal's political landscape.
