Kathmandu: Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba emphasized the critical role of sports in promoting a healthy body and mind. Speaking at the national assembly of democratic sportspersons and enthusiasts organized by the Nepal Democratic Sports Association's national conventional central committee, Deuba highlighted the importance of integrating sports into daily life.

"Sports are essential for maintaining a healthy body, which in turn fosters a healthy mind," Deuba stated, stressing the significant role sports and physical exercise play in the career development of youth. With a large number of young people active in the sports sector, he noted that the Nepali Congress has prioritized youth and sports development and called for the effective continuation of the President Running Shield, a nationwide sports initiative.

Minister for Youth and Sports Tejulal Chaudhary echoed Deuba's sentiments, announcing that discussions are underway to allocate a dedicated budget in the upcoming fiscal year to support the education of sportspersons who have contributed significantly to the nation. He also emphasized discipline in sports and warned of strict actions against sports associations failing to adhere to rules and regulations.

NC leader Mohan Bahadur Basnet took the opportunity to urge party cadres and leaders to prepare for the party’s national convention, scheduled to be held by mid-April 2025.

Devendra Kumar Sherchan, President of the Nepal Democratic Sports Association, pledged the organization’s commitment to eliminating irregularities in the sports sector and fostering a healthier sports culture.
