Kathmandu: Experts in the field of information technology have emphasized that Nepal has the potential to generate more than Rs 100 billion annually by producing skilled IT human resources. Speaking at a group discussion hosted by the Nepali Congress’s Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprise Development Department, they highlighted that even a small investment in the IT sector could yield significant returns.

The discussion, titled ‘Entrepreneurship and Human Resource Development: Preparing for the IT Sector,’ took place on the second day of the Nepal Startup and SME Conference at the NC Central Office in Sanepa, Lalitpur.

Sulabh Budhathoki, Head of Innovative Nepal Group, stressed the need for investment in IT human resource development, stating that Nepal could export IT services worth over Rs 100 billion annually if skilled manpower were produced as per industry requirements.

Tribhuvan University Dean Prof. Dr. Mahanananda Chalise pointed out the importance of integrating technical education into the broader education system. He noted that while government policies exist, they often lack provisions for linking students to the technical sector.

CNAS Executive Director Mirgendra Karki argued that promoting locally produced IT products could facilitate overall economic transformation.

Similarly, Bibhushan Bista, founder of Young Innovation, suggested that if Nepal adopted policies to strengthen the IT sector, it could produce five times more IT professionals than it does now, leading to increased IT service exports. He stressed the importance of incorporating entrepreneurship into education.

Karvika Thapa, CEO of Khimbu Tech, emphasized that success in the IT industry comes from pursuing one's passion and continuously working in the field.

Meanwhile, Department Coordinator Urmila Thapaliya expressed confidence that the conference would inspire new entrepreneurs and businesspersons, encouraging them to expand their ventures.
