Pokhara: Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has emphasized that party unity is essential for NC to secure a majority in future elections. Speaking at an orientation program for provincial presidents and training department heads in Pokhara, Deuba highlighted the challenges of achieving a majority under Nepal’s inclusive and proportional electoral system but stressed that collective effort could make NC the dominant force in the country.
"We have adopted an inclusive and proportional system, which makes it difficult for any single party to gain a majority," Deuba stated. "However, we are already the largest party, and with true unity, we can become a majority party."
Deuba underlined that constitutional provisions ensure the representation of all ethnicities, languages, and communities in governance. He urged party members to uphold the democratic values and legacies left by past leaders like BP Koirala, Ganeshman Singh, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, and Girija Prasad Koirala. He also stressed the need to strengthen democracy, federalism, and inclusiveness while advocating for decentralized governance for Nepal’s development.
Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, who heads the NC’s Central Policy, Research, and Training Academy, outlined plans to conduct training programs at all levels—central, provincial, district, and electoral constituencies.
Similarly, NC Gandaki Province President Shukraraj Sharma stressed the importance of preserving the party’s historical values and legacy while fostering inclusivity.
The one-day training and orientation program included NC provincial leaders from all seven provinces, along with central officials, Kaski district representatives, and provincial members.
