Texas: The Texas State Legislature has officially declared March 13 as 'Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day,' recognizing the historical and spiritual significance of Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha.

The announcement was made following the passage of a resolution during the 89th session of the Texas Legislature held on March 13. The resolution was introduced by Suleman Lalani, one of the first Muslim and South Asian lawmakers in the Texas Legislature.

Recognition of Lumbini's Heritage
The resolution emphasizes Lumbini’s historical importance as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major spiritual destination for Buddhists worldwide. It highlights the need to promote Lumbini’s cultural and religious significance on a global stage.

The mayors from five municipalities under Nepal’s Lumbini Circuit were present during the announcement. They are currently on an official visit to the United States to promote Lumbini as a center for peace and pilgrimage.

Initiative by Nepali Community Leaders
The effort to pass the resolution was spearheaded by Netra Pandey, Vice-President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), America, and Prabhat Dixit, a prominent civic leader. They took the initiative during the Nepali mayors' visit to the US, working to bring attention to Nepal's cultural heritage.

Annual Celebration to Promote Tourism
According to Netra Pandey, the Nepali community in Texas will celebrate 'Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day' every year on March 13. The observance aims to support the promotion of Nepal's tourism sector and raise awareness about Lumbini’s significance as the birthplace of Lord Buddha.

The Texas Legislature’s resolution marks a significant step in strengthening cultural ties between Nepal and the United States, while also helping to promote Lumbini as a global destination for peace and spiritual tourism.
